New Stats

I took Summer to her 6 month doctor appointment today and the stats are in, dun dun na nah...50th Percentile for everything!

Weight - 16lb 10oz
Height - 26 inches
Head Cir. - 17 inches
Thanks to my good little eater who doesn't turn away any fruit or vegetable she has jumped from the 15th percentile to the 50th.
I know what you are thinking...she is SO cute you just want to lick the leftover pears right off her face! Me too!

Another thing I want to document is that at 6 months Summer is a squirmy little worm. Changing her diaper these days is like roping a calf.
First, you have to convince her to remove her toes from her mouth so you can velcro the diaper strap then you have to lift the velcro like lightening or she will stiffen up her body, arch her back and begin to roll sideways...by that time she has stretched just enough so that the diaper is touching the back of her neck and barely covering in the front. It is at that moment that I think "I am going to have to blog about this."

Well that is about it for today. I have completed 5 of my 10 tasks from LAST week's to do list...and no they do not include unpacking or decorating for Christmas, wah wah Debbie Downer.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today I am thankful to spend Thanksgiving 2009 with the Martins!
The whole family pitched in to prepare a delicious meal.
Chad putting the turkey in the oven. He watched a Today Show kitchen segment that taught him how to carve a turkey and after that he wanted to be involved.
Kiersten baking the sweet treats!
Grandad making sure that Summer is happy and content.
Summer woke up halfway through our meal. I knew there was a reason I was speed eating.
Summer is to the age where she wants a bite of whatever I am eating...not this Thanksgiving. Summer enjoyed oatmeal with sweet potatoes, yum!
Although Summer came down with her first cold this week, oh the hoarse cry was heartbreaking, I am thankful for her great health.I am thankful that God blessed me with overflowing love for my daughter! We are going to have so much fun in our lifetime. I am thankful for my husband who works hard to provide for our family and to keep us safe and secure!I am thankful for my vivacious sister in law who is the life of the party!I am thankful for the love and support that the Martins give to Chad, Summer and myself...and that Buddy didn't eat Summer (just kidding Buddy is a perfect dog).

And FINALLY I am thankful to be an AUNT to the FUTURE SAVAGE TWINS!

To be born probably in the most popular month of May...more details to come.

I am also thankful for so many other family members, friends and life situations but I don't have pictures taken of them today so please don't get your feelings hurt.

Much Love - Jana

Surprise Party

After a month of secret emails and little white lies, Doug, Chad, Kiersten and myself were able to pull off a Surprise 60th Birthday party for Susan. It wasn't easy as she had lots of questions about our actions these past few weeks. I think she was surprised!
It was a great party with lots of her friends. I had one of those cakes made that has an edible picture on it. Lucky me they accidently made 2 and so I got an extra one for free as they obviously can't sell a cake with another person's face on it. Turns out I needed it! I was rushing to unload the decorations from my car when Lucy saw a car door open and decided she wanted to go for a ride...you can see where this is headed. That's right she jumped up into the car and landed on one of the cakes in the passenger seat. What a blessing I had a replica in the backseat, amazing.
The Martins have loved every minute with Summer as you can tell.
Aunt Kiki and Summer
Grandad and Summer
Preston and Kim (by the way good luck on your 1/2 marathon on Thanksgiving) supervise the 2 cousins meeting. Summer is all smiles but Brooke isn't so sure about this baby.
Summer whispers can't we just be friends? I'll do your hair.
My Aunt Bethany gave mommy and me lessons from Paul Mitchell a few weeks ago...flashback!
Hey Big Cuz Brooke, I hope when I am 3 I will have long pretty hair like yours!
I knew Summer had big cheeks but WOW they look like chipmunks in this picture!
I also have some other birthday shout outs!
Happy Birthday Aunt Bethany!
Happy Birthday Grandu Larry!

Summer Marie - 6 Months

Thank you for still checking this blog. I have been shaking from blog withdrawals but that is the life of moving with a 6 month old (as of today) and not having our wireless internet setup yet (how dare they expect me to "plug in").
Well...WE MADE IT! I have so much to blog about but let me first start with my sweet cupcake's 6 month birthday.
Summer Marie is now 1/2 a year old. Knowing me I will start planning her 1 year birthday party as soon as Christmas is over.
LOTS has changed with Summer in the past month. Here is her list of likes, dislikes and new skills.
LIKES:
  • Eating food - she has now eaten rice cereal and oatmeal, applesauce, bananas, pears, avocado, sweet potato, butternut squash, peas, carrots, green beans, pear juice and prunes. She loves them all the same and never turns down a bite. You MUST feed this chick fast or she will begin to eat her fingers and that is when you have a big mess.
  • Being in public - no matter how cranky her gums may make her act at home she will turn into a angelic sugar cube once you leave the front door.
  • Standing - put her on her feet and it will turn a frown upside down.
  • Baby Einstein - watches daily and still loves it, My First Sounds

DISLIKES:

  • Naps - whatever you do don't try to make her take a nap in her crib. She only wants to take naps while riding in the car (the carseat is no longer a dislike), being pushed in the stroller or riding around in the baby bjorn.
  • Teething - both Mommy and Summer dislike this. This morning she appeared to be in some monster pain so I gave her a small dose of Children's Tylenol. I predict she will have a tooth by Christmas.
  • Pooping - not really sure if this is a dislike but now that she is eating food her pooh is shaped like an adults (TMI?). She really likes to poop when I am changing her diaper so she can have some assistance (don't worry I won't describe how I "assist" but I am her mother that is what I am supposed to do). The rate she is going I think I could potty train her on pooping soon!

NEW SKILLS:

  • Sitting Up Unassisted - as of November 7th Summer started sitting up on her own. She can now sit for 2+ minutes. She no longer has to have her hands on the ground either. She can sway to the side and correct her posture without falling over. If she does fall over, on the carpet, she doesn't cry but just rolls over.
  • Grabbing - she grabs everything in reach. Her favorite item is my hair-OUCH!
  • Smiling/Laughing - she smiles back at you and will laugh if she thinks your funny (of course she thinks I am).

Ta-Da now the pictures!

More updates to come...

Progress Report

Have I mentioned that this past week Summer has learned how to sit up. Obviously in this photo she has the support of a comfy chair but she can sit up for 35 seconds+ . One day it was 1 second, next day 7 seconds and third day 35 seconds; I was amazed! In the past 2 weeks of transition, Summer has also gone from eating plain rice cereal to now eating oatmeal with peaches, applesauce, bananas, pears, avocado, green beans and sweet potatoes. The girl has not turned her nose up at any of these foods. I thought there was a chance she might not like the green beans but then I realized that I ate green beans at least 4 days a week while I was pregnant so it is no wonder she ate the entire jar (even plain, not mixed in with the oatmeal). She now opens her mouth for each bite and likes to eat fast. If I don't scoop it in her mouth fast enough she WILL put her index finger in there instead.
Mimi had Veteran's day off and wanted to practice doing chores around the house with Summer in the Baby Bjorn. They both seemed to like it...which meant I liked it too.

Movie Stars

As it turns out, this Martin family is staring in their very own horror flick.
It is being directed by ELI Trucking Company featuring:
Jana Martin - a mother of 1 who flew cross country with her baby with a travel bag packed for 4 days and it has turned into 2 weeks and counting.
Summer Martin - the baby that hasn't a clue what is going on as she is surrounded by hugs and kisses
Chad Martin - the father who drove his oversized dogs across country and is now in Mexico in the eye of Hurricane Ida on business.
ELI trucking - the moving company who picked up our belonging, drove them in the opposite direction of the move and has them sitting in a warehouse.
The highlights of this feature presentation include; passport drama, dog drama, knee drama, allergy drama...
There are some high points; quality time with family and friends, Alabama/LSU game, meeting up with daddy before heleft for Mexico and a "couple" other things.
Note to picture above: Summer was intent on grabbing the toy on the table and wasn't cooperating with the photographer.
I am expecting the ending will be a love story of this family reuniting and getting settled in our new home.

Little Miss Sugar Pie Pumpkin Muffin

Oh Summer is growing so much each day and she is getting more and more lovable!
At 5 1/2 months she is:

  • Eating Rice Cereal mixed with fruit in the morning and night
  • Loves her bath and is splashing in the water
  • Talks alot! She is guaranteed to talk if you put something in her mouth; finger, spoon or bottle.
  • Smiles at you anytime you smile at her.
  • Goes to bed at 6pm, wakes up around 4am to have a bottle then sleeps for another 2 hours.
  • Takes at least one nap in bed each day and another in her car seat while we run around.
  • If the outlook indoors seems grey...take her outside. The girl loves to get out and about!
  • Has started to poopy more now that the food has increased - twice a day now.
  • Wears size 3 diapers. I am guessing she weighs 16 lb (sadly we don't have a baby class yet to know for sure).
  • Very adaptable as we have thrown her for a loop with the timezone change, daylight savings change and environment change...and it keeps on changing!
  • Can sit up alone for about 1 second...we are getting there. However once she falls backwards on the bed it becomes a game and she only wants to sit up then immediately fall backwards again.
  • Grabs handfuls of my hair and hangs on tight.
  • Loves her index finger (see pictures below)
Oh the fun of a 5 1/2 month old!
Mommy and Summer on her first Halloween
Summer loves that index finger (and any others that she can stuff in her teething mouth)

Summer and Mimi

At the end of the day, when Little Miss Sugar Pie Pumpkin Muffin is relaxed and asleep I wrap up in the Snuggie and lay on the sofa! Rachel C. this picture was taken just for you.
