Zane is 6 months old

Zane is 6 months old!
Time flies! He loves to give his Mama sweet smiles.
"Let's be clear...I'll smile if you give me food, right?"
Who is 3 years old and who is 6 months old?
Big sister better live it up 'cause little bro is going to catch up soon in size.  And yes, those thighs are ridiculous!  I often don't button the outer 2 snaps of his onesies so it doesn't pull to tight on his legs, ha ha ha.
 "She's knocking me over Mom!"
"HELP! Get her out of my crib!"
At 6 months old, Zane weighs 18 lb (50%) and is 27 inches tall (75%).  He wears size 9-12 month clothes.
He Likes:
  • Eating baby food that Mama makes and Baby Mum Mums-thanks Aunt Jen
  • Baby Einstein
  • Exercauser-load up all his toys then he knocks them down
  • Putting everything in his mouth
  • Routine and napping in his crib
  • Being carried in the Baby Bjorn
  • Being entertained by Big Sister or our dog, Sissy
He Dislikes:
  • Waiting for anything! meals, naps, being picked up
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on Baby Einstein DVD-funny, Summer did the same thing...when he starts crying we know TTLS is on and after the scene changes he is back to smiling!
  • Not being able to nap in his crib when he is sleepy-he will fight falling asleep in any other environment.
Basically he is just the sweetest baby at home!  I eat him up everyday.  He smiles and giggles.  He can roll over each way and can sit up if leaning on a toy for a few seconds.

Wonder-MOM to the Rescue!

3 months of training plus lots of encouragement, self confidence and perseverance brought me to the finish line last Saturday at the Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon! We started downtown and ran through some really nice and old neighborhoods, golf courses, university then finished back downtown.  It was great to see my family at the finish line even if I did feel light headed.
Folks, ha ha ha, I can't tell you how many inclines were part of this course. It was killer!  I don't walk a half...I commit to running the entire race, however there were people passing me on the steep hills walking (yes, while I was still running). I said from the beginning this was about getting back in shape after having Zane and that I wasn't going to worry about my time. Well, I finished 40 minutes longer than my previous half marathon which given the course I still am content with. Next race is in the works!
Remember this sweet picture from Summer's first day of preschool a few weeks ago...
Well, yesterday, Summer gave herself a haircut!  A full-on mullet. If you think this picture doesn't look bad, it is because I had just wet it and tried parting her hair on the other side...one side was worse than the other.  Plus, in this picture her "new bangs" are to the side-oh nelly, you don't want to see them hanging down!  She said she didn't know cutting her hair was bad...now she knows.  Mama wanted to cry but held it back so that I wouldn't give her a complex but oh it was heartbreaking.  Only hair, I know, but still heartbreaking.  With my heart pounding I went into recovery mode...how are we gonna make this cute again.
It took me a few hours of looking at her to realize that there wasn't any way to keep the hair the way it was.  The front was just way too short compared to the back so I cut her a cute little BOB.  And, wouldn't you know it...she is back to adorable again!  A little too mature for her age, but stylish.  That's what Moms are for...save the day!

If...,then...

I thought I should share with you some of the wise lessons I have learned as a mother.
If you feed your baby multiple times during the night, then he will be chunky and grow up to be the starting Center at Alabama, like God intended him to be.  After all, everybody knows the physic you have at 5 months will remain for the rest of your life.
If you put your daughter's dress on before you put her underwear on, then the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" might be applicable when her Sunday School teacher confronts you about the lack of...

If you won't sit quietly with Mommy and Daddy in Sunday School, then your Mama might hit her limit and put you in the nursery for the first time.  Luckily you are adorable and the teachers held you the entire time.
If you put your kids in front of the tv watching "their news," then you will become invisible.
If your daughter is an Alabama fan at age 3, then she will grow up to be the most well-rounded, intelligent, joyful little lady.  Roll Tide!

1st Day of Preschool

Thank God that Summer is on the mend.  In fact, she was doing so well yesterday we took her supplies to school and met her teachers AND today Summer went to her First Day of Preschool!
I am so proud of her!  She went right in and immediately started playing with the dollhouse.  And before I left she said, "Oh, I show Mommy something"...and it was the Daddy figurine that goes in the dollhouse just like the one we have at home. No tears.  No fears.
Here is the report I got when asked "How was school today?"
  • Ms. Debbie wore a brown shirt and Ms. Melissa wore a red shirt.
  • One boy wore a green shirt.
  • She coughed in her elbow and Ms. Debbie didn't give her a treat (when we met the teacher yesterday she explained that when she sees you coughing in your elbow she gives you a pez candy or skittle so I understand the disappointment).
  • She didn't get to be the line leader.
  • She went to the bathroom with another girl.
  • She doesn't know any other kids names yet.
  • Ms. Melissa opened her pear cup for her and that was nice.
  • She through her napkin away and didn't make a mess.
  • She sat on an orange carpet square for group time where Ms. Debbie talked about "all about me"
  • Guess what? Its a new month!
  • "Listen"
  • She didn't get her treasure stick taken away so she got to pick a treasure from the chest, a purple dinosaur.
  • They played outside but someone told her she couldn't come in the playhouse.
  • They didn't use their scissors, glue sticks, crayons or markers (a big disappointment).
  • When I asked what they did at table time (I was going through the daily schedule to pull this information out of her) she said "nuffin." I responded, "you didn't do anything at the table." She repeated, "nuffin, maybe we rested."  Who knows, resting could be considered "nuffin!"
Zane and I had a great morning to ourselves.  Time flies when you are separated from a 3 year old.
I went to let Sissy outside and had to step over this big mess in the playroom.  To me this is a big mess but let me tell you what this looks like to Summer...
The alphabet mat is her classroom.  And her invisible babies are stringing beads.  She had to take them all out of the box and give each invisible baby her own pile.  You can't see the separation anymore because every time I walk in there to let the dog in/out I kick a bead or get one stuck in my toes.  The tissues, which we now have a box in every room, have been pulled out to cover her "walking stick" because she doesn't want her invisible babies to see her walking stick!  As you can now imagine, every piece of the mess I see has a reason for being in its place, according to Summer...and so I left it there.  (also because I am too lazy to clean it up)

Still Storming

Well folks, the Summer storm has been hovering over us and just doesn't seem to be letting up.  We have been doing ALOT of breathing treatments!
And even more breathing treatments.
We have had happy moments...when we get to get out of the house and go to the doctor...AGAIN!
Zane has started quite a few new things in the past 3 weeks.  He has had his first rice puffs.  He loved them, of course, but I still can't seem to find the Baby Mum Mum brand and the ones I have are circles which I have to watch like a hawk to make sure he doesn't choke.
When Zane is on the floor, he likes to exercise.  He does crunches and can hold them for a really long time.  He has actually gotten strong enough to ROLL OVER.  He can now go both directions, back to tummy and back again!  He also likes to scoot around.  When he woke up this morning he was facing the opposite direction.  Go buddy!
Zane cheered on the Crimson Tide for his very first game!
Then, against my hopes and prayers, Zane started to show signs of sickness.  I had been watching a random cough for a few days and sure enough it got consistent and I heard wheezing.  Oh Nelly! That's right, we were back at the doctor's office doing breathing treatments on BOTH children.  Actually we had fun...it was a race to see who could finish first.  I asked Summer who she thought would win...and her sweet sibling response said "I hope we both win!"

Here's where they stand:
Summer: Walking Pneumonia is healing. Dr said lungs sound good, no crackling. One more day of antibiotics. Asthma, however is not under control and doctor referred us to an allergist who specializes in asthma.  We hope to get an appointment today or tomorrow. Summer coughs and wheezes.  Dr. listened to her cough and said it sounds like an asthmatic cough which opens the airways and clears the mucus (a part of asthma) to breath easier.
Zane: He is being treating for walking pneumonia with antibiotics and breathing treatments.  His spirits have not been effected nor has his eating or sleeping (thank goodness).
